On Wednesday 3rd April I will be heading over to the beautiful LUAN Gallery in Athlone to present a public talk in connection with their current exhibition ‘A Very Grand Canal’, focused around artistic interpretations of the Irish Grand Canal. The exhibition includes ‘Six Moorings and A Silent Thread‘, a six-part electroacoustic installation I developed in 2012 as part of a Public Art Commission for Offaly County Council. During the talk I will be providing some general background on the history of soundscape studies and soundwalking theory, before going into more detail about this specific project, and finishing up with a listening session of an excerpt from the final electroacoustic piece. More events are scheduled with artists featured in the exhibition, including an interesting screenwriting workshop with Irish playwright Eugene O’Brien.
